Junior Graduate Planning and Surveying Opportunities

Telecoms Site Acquisition and Planning specialist, PHA Communications Limited have recently joined Beacon Communications Group as part of their continued expansion within the Telecommunications sector.

Beacon,  who employ well in excess of 150 employees, is setting new standards for excellence in the telecommunications industry and have recently, been included in the London Stock Exchange’s “Top 1000 Companies to Inspire”. 

As a company Beacon now offer clients a comprehensive list of services dealing with planning, acquisition, site design, analysis, fabrication, installation and commissioning thereby offering prospective and existing clients a one-stop shop for all their site deployment requirements.

Beacon work with all the major UK mobile network operators (MNOs), data transmission clients, broadband operators and also other major Regional Clients within the communications sector.

The telecommunications field is currently a rapidly expanding area. The advancement of technologies and the provision of high quality infrastructure throughout the UK is widely promoted by the Government as essential to ensuring future success and sustainable economic growth. This is an exciting time in the telecommunications industry and in the light of the rollout of 5G mobile wireless systems throughout the UK and beyond we are seeking to expand our Acquisition and Planning team.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a positive work ethic and good team working skills to provide support to our existing team of planners and surveyors. This is a fantastic opportunity for ambitious, driven individuals to work in an experienced and expanding team.

The Planning and Acquisition team are currently located in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, however we are looking for employees to be based either in Hertfordshire or the Reading area.  Beacon also has offices in Devon, the Midlands, Manchester and South London.

High levels of computer literacy, detailed research, report writing, detailed analysis and spatial awareness are key skills that we are looking for. Title:          Junior Town Planner

Location:    Harpenden/ Reading

Job Brief:   To work under the supervision of a MRTPI qualified Town Planner to handle all aspects of the Town and Country Planning work as required to meet different project needs


 The main duties will include:

·         Preparation (including pre-application consultation), submission and management of  forms of planning applications (Full, GPDO, Listed Building, Licensed Notification) Appeals) and the submission of planning appeals

·         The undertaking of planning histories, site appraisals, site findings, background research, updating databases

·         Provision of planning advice and support colleagues across the business as required

Essential Skills:                

·         Working to tight deadlines and able to manage a large case load

·         The ability to work independently, but also to gauge when to seek advice from more experienced colleague

·         High level of attention to detail and spatial awareness

·         Ability to follow strict procedures and adopt a methodical approach

·         Task orientated

·         Ability to digest new information quickly

·         Excellent computer skills

Hours of work:                  09.00 – 17.30

Salary:                              £18,000 to £22,000 based on experience

Reporting to:                     Senior Town Planner


Title:                            2 x Junior Acquisition Surveyors

Location:                    Harpenden/ Reading

Job Brief:                     We are looking for an Acquisition Surveyor to join our existing team.

                                    The role involves site surveys, negotiating and planning for both new build and upgrade projects.

                                    The role holder must be capable of taking ownership of a portfolio of sites (new and upgrades) from commencement through to legal completion and handover to build


The main duties will include:

·         Working with the design team for site survey, kick off visits, Multi Skill Visits and acquisition advice

·         Drafting Heads of Terms, appraisal analysis, report writing and assisting with valuations as necessary

·         SP negotiations for new sites and upgrades with ownership through to legal completion and acquisition handover to the Build team

·         System use on our internal system called Atlas for data management and reporting

·         Managing your portfolio of sites to internal and external KPI’s

Essential Skills:              

The ideal candidate will have:

·         Relevant telecommunications acquisition experience

·         A flexible, adaptable approach suited to a fast paced environment

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Excellent computer skills

·         Experience with working with Word, Excel

Hours of work:                  09.00 – 17.30

Salary:                                  £18,000 - £22,000 based on experience

Reporting to:                     Regional Manager
